BEAUTY REVIEW: Lacura Lip Kit
Is it just me or do lip kits feel very 2016?
Call it nostalgia or just curiosity but when I spotted the Lacura Lip Kit at my local Aldi, I decided to test it out. I will confess I have small lips, so I am not usually very into lip products (I tend to focus on my eyes instead). But for $5.99 for the kit, I thought it was worth experimenting.
About the Lacura Lip Kit
The Lacura Lip Kit comes with a liquid lipstick (sort of like applying a lip gloss) and a matching lip liner. I went with the ruby color, but my store also had it in berry, a peachy color, and nude.
What I didn’t realize until I brought it home is that the lipstick is matte. Like I said, I don’t use a lot of lip products, so this was my first experience using a matte lipstick. It felt a bit weird and almost dry to me, but the box describes it as having a “smooth velvety texture.” Since I haven’t tried other matte lipsticks, I’m not sure how it compares to other brands.

My Experience Using the Lacura Lip Kit
Despite being a complete novice at lip liner and matte lipstick, I did find this kit easy to apply. The liquid lipstick also seemed to have an almost vanilla scent that I liked. I’m not sure this was intentional, but it was nice regardless.
One thing I am conflicted about is the color. I went with the ruby and it is a very VIBRANT red. So, I’ll admit I haven’t worn it out in public yet aside from a short walk. I don’t think it’s unflattering, but rather shocking. Maybe, that goes back to me not using a lot of lip products.

The good news: The lip color stayed in place despite sweating in the hot, humid summer air. But this also meant it was challenging to remove for the night. A full shower with my usual skincare routine didn’t remove the lip color entirely. I ended up having to apply Vaseline.
Final Thoughts on the Lacura Lip Kit
Would I buy it again? Maybe, but it would need to be in a different color. And I’m not sure any of the colors I’ve seen so far are exactly what I have in mind. I would want a neutral pale pink that could be for more casual wear. The nude color is close, but maybe a little too light for my tastes.
When I’m not in the mood for the matte look, I could see myself applying just the lip pencil over my lips. I don’t think it would be as long-lasting as the liquid lipstick, but it could still provide a nice pop of color.
