BEAUTY REVIEW: Timeless 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum
I’m so excited to be writing this beauty review! I’ve been on a book review spree lately, so it’s nice to change gears and focus on something completely different.
For the past couple of months, I’ve incorporated a vitamin C serum into my daily skincare routine. I’ve never previously used any vitamin C serum products, so I went with the Timeless brand based on a recommendation from my mom (hi Mom!).
Let’s get into it!
What is Timeless 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum?
(Please note: I’m not a dermatologist, doctor, or any other healthcare or skincare professional. These are just my experiences trying out different skincare products!)
According to the Timeless Skin Care website, the product listing for the 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum says it has three main purposes: Brighten, defend, and smooth.
To be a bit more detailed, the website breaks down the different benefits by ingredient:
- Vitamin C: “Reduces hyperpigmentation and sun damage, evens skin tone and brightens complexion.”
- Vitamin E: “Moisturizes, heals and protects.”
- Ferulic Acid: “Enhances antioxidant benefits to protect skin from environmental stressors.”
(Note: If you’re looking at different products, sometimes Vitamin C gets referred to as L-ascorbic acid on ingredient lists, which admittedly sounds a bit intimidating.)
Additional benefits listed on the website about the serum include that it helps promote cell turnover and stimulates collagen production.
I personally store my serum in the refrigerator as the bottle recommends refrigeration to help keep the serum fresh. Plus, I love the refreshing coolness when I apply it to my face post-shower. However, it does say you can store in in a cool, dry place instead.
Compared to some of my other beauty reviews (like Aldi finds or Trader Joe’s), this is more expensive. A 1.7 ounce bottle (like I have) on the Timeless website is currently $34.95 as of writing. There is a smaller 1 ounce bottle for $26.95 if you want to make sure you like it first, before committing to a bigger bottle.
I’ve noticed they do have sales sometimes, so that could be an opportunity to make your move. Unfortunately, you can’t really stock up on bottles of serum during sales as you’re supposed to use them within 6 months of manufacture.
How Do You Use Timeless 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum?
Using the Timeless serum is simple. According to the bottle, you should apply 2 to 3 drops to your fingers and then smooth onto dry skin nightly.
Honestly, with the pump, you really don’t have a lot of control over how many drops you get. I usually use one pump each day. I noticed the website (rather than the bottle) recommends using one to two pumps.
While I do use the serum daily, I apply it in the mornings rather than at night like the bottle recommends. I personally do this to avoid any interactions with my nighttime products. I also like the idea that my skin has additional protection against the sun. I thought this post from Skin Pharm did a nice job of explaining when you should use vitamin C serum if you’re on the fence.
My Experience Using Timeless 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum
So, my first week with the serum was a bit rough… but I love it now!
When I first began using the serum, my skin started to break out more. It was mostly small red bumps/pimples. I suspected that my skin was having some sort of purging reaction, but I’ve found articles from dermatologists saying that vitamin C shouldn’t cause purging. So, it’s possible that I was experiencing some kind of skin irritation to the serum for the first week or so? In hindsight, I probably should have alternated days at first before jumping right into every day application to better prepare my somewhat sensitive skin. Aside from that hiccup, my experience with the serum has been positive. I haven’t noticed any additional skin issues or irritations.
The serum itself is a bit watery, so be prepared for that when you go to use it. I usually apply one pump after my morning shower by patting it onto my face and gently rubbing. There’s a mild smell that I’m not entirely sure how to describe, but it does thankfully fade very quickly and shouldn’t bother you if you’re sensitive to smells like I am.
I’ve found the serum does dry quickly, so I’m able to follow up with my moisturizer and my daily facial sunscreen shortly after. (I’m still using the Australian Gold sunscreen from this post.)
In terms of my skin and how it’s looking, it’s always so hard to quantify results. However, I do believe that my skin overall is looking better these days! It just looks brighter to me. Maybe, that’s the cell turnover at work? I never had any major issues with uneven skin tone, so I can’t speak much to that aside from freckles, which I do think look less prominent. But it is winter time, so I haven’t been in the sun nearly as much as usual. Plus, I did start wearing a daily face sunscreen last year, so that could also play a role.
Would I buy the Timeless 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum again?
Here’s the most important question: Would I buy the Timeless 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum again? Yes, I would!
I’m really happy with how my skin is looking these days using minimal products. Previously, it seemed like my skin always looked dull and kind of blah even with exfoliating, but these days it’s looking healthier to me.
If you take the leap and try the serum, I hope you like it as much as I do!
