Are you a “multipotentialite”?

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about my career, my passions, and my long-term goals and sometimes it feels like I’m all over the place. I’m somehow interested in everything and nothing. It made me remember one of my favorite TED Talks ever. It’s called ‘Why some of us don’t have one true calling’ by Emilie Wapnick and it dives into the concept of being a multipotentialite. It’s definitely worth a watch if you’re someone who still doesn’t know what you want to be when you ‘grow up’– whether you’re in college or mid-career.

What’s a multipotentialite? And are you one?

One of my favorite quotes from the video:

It is rarely a waste of time to pursue something you’re drawn to even if you end up quitting.

I love the feeling I get after watching this TED Talk. It gives you permission to go after what you’re interested in without it being a permanent commitment. It’s OK to experiment, explore, and enjoy the journey. Just take a deep breath and do your thing.
