What I’m into: July 2020 edition

I’m bringing back the ‘What I’m Into Post’ for July, as I feel like I’m all over the place this month. It’s been one of those times where I’m excited and interested in a little bit of everything and I can’t wait to share!

Sleep mask

Sleep Masks

I’ve long resisted wearing a sleep mask. The idea of basically being blindfolded at night seemed… weird? Uncomfortable? Unnecessary? But I could not have been more wrong.

Earlier this year, I ordered THIS sleep mask off Amazon and it has been a game-changer! I’m a very light sleeper and am very sensitive to any light in the room, so this has been perfect. Since wearing it nightly, I’ve noticed I’m able to sleep in later on weekends and recover from the work week.

There is research behind this, if you need more convincing. (I hope to learn more about sleep soon and have a hold on ‘Why We Sleep: Unlocking the Power of Sleep and Dreams’ by Matthew Walker in the OverDrive App!)

Reading Multiple Books at Once

So, I realize that this isn’t some crazy or original idea. But for years, I would only read one book at a time. Once I finished that book, I could then move on to the next one. Lately, I’ve been pushing myself to read two books at once– one non-fiction, one fiction. I like to read the non-fiction in the mornings or at night before I get too tired. Once I start getting a little drowsy, I’ll read fiction for a while.

I’ve found this strategy has helped me really up how many books I’m able to read each month. Plus, I feel like I’m able to learn more!

Pratical Ayurveda

Ayurveda

I first became interested in the practice of Ayurveda after hearing about it a few years ago on the Main Street Vegan Podcast by Victoria Moran. While it caught my interest, that was the end of it for a while. But lately with the wellness space promoting tongue scraping, oil pulling, dry brushing, and other activities with roots in Ayurveda, I decided it was time to give it another look.

I borrowed the book ‘Practical Ayurveda: Find Out Who You Are and What You Need to Bring Balance to Your Life’ using the OverDrive app and took a deep dive. I’m absolutely fascinated by all of the ideas and while I’m not ready to make any grand sweeping lifestyle changes, I’m not ruling them out in the future. Plus, it’s making me reconsider my reluctance to give Yoga a try.

Based on a few self-assessments, I believe I’m Pitta-Vata. This website has a lot of great resource if you want to know your Dosha or are just interested in learning a little more about Ayurveda as a whole.

FARM Rio

I came across this brand on Instagram (secretofdd‘s page to be exact) and I immediately fell in love with all of the colors and designs. According to their website, FARM Rio is considered to be Brazil’s most recognized brand and I can see why.

I am OBSESSED with the Azalea Forest Boy Shirt HERE. While it’s way out of the price range that I would normally pay for a shirt, I’m not ruling out a potential splurge. The site says FARM Rio does donate a tree for every order, so at least I can feel like I’m doing some good?
